Tell us about you. What are all of your music
industry talents? (Singer, song writer, Producer, Remixer, DJ, Radio
announcer, Industry executive, Business owner, Other )
Both Mitch and I write and produce all of our
songs as well as for a few other artists. We own a recording studio in San
Diego CA where we have been recording and writing every thing from rock to
dance. The last 5 years however we have been focusing on dance music and
remixes. I also DJ here in San Diego but my main focus is on Liquid360 as
an artist and production team.
When did you
first realize you wanted to sing /DJ /work in the industry for a living?
I’ve wanted to sing since I was 6 or 7 and
Mitch wanted to do music around 14 years old. As you can see, music has
been been in our blood for a long time. I guess that’s why we work so well
together.
How did you
discover dance music?
We started out doing keyboard driven music in
the mid 90's then we did rock for about 5 years as the group Thick Liquid.
We burnt out on Rock music and when we returned to the keyboard driving
music in 2000 it was either hip hop and R&B or dance music. Dance music was
more challenging. We’ve always had a love for dance music tho. Our first
two releases in 2004 were covers of two of our favorite songs Erasure’s
“Chains of Love” and Depeche Mode’s “Strangelove”. Songs like these have
really influenced our musical direction even when we did Rock music.
Describe your first professional
break.
I would say working with Jeremy Martorano was
when things really changed. We had been doing dance remixes for a couple of
years but when we decided to release original material, Jeremy really helped
us get our music out there. He has become the third guy of liquid360, sharp
cookie. He networks well and I think he's going to become a big wig in the
industry.
What was your
greatest challenge when you first got started in the music industry?
As with any genre it’s all about getting your
name out there. Between internet, mp3s, record labels, press – it can be a
challenge. Thankfully we’ve made the right connections and found the right
people to help us. But there is still a lot to do and always room for
growth.
What continues
to be your greatest challenge?
Dance music tends to be the red headed step
child of the music industry. So we’re always fighting an uphill battle to
keep dance music in the mainstream eye.
How does
networking continue to move your career forward?
Networking is essential. We’re constantly
talking with other artists and music industry professionals because you
never know where it might lead. That next big collaboration is just a
conversation away. Our fans are a great resource too. Never ignore fan’s
feedback.
What advice
can you offer music professionals looking to gain success in this business?
Stay true and don't forget that it is a
business.
